Weapons Formed Against Us

There is a funny meme I’ve seen that says, “These weapons formed against me prosperin’ a little bit.” It warrants a chuckle and unfortunately, also some agreement. Life just seems to keep whittling away at our resolve and strength to the point that we feel overwhelmed and incapable of keeping up with the heaviness. But is it true, can weapons formed against us prosper? And if so, how do we get from one day to the next?

But is it true, can weapons formed against us prosper?

I don’t have the answers. I feel the same way sometimes. However, if we believe God’s word to be true, and we believe He walks with us and will never abandon us, do we care if we are on the receiving end of life’s smackdowns sometimes? An easy life was never promised to us. What was promised, however, was God saying He would be with us to the end of days. The weapons of the enemy; hate, bitterness, fear, pride, lust, etc., have been with us since man’s fall in the Garden of Eden, but lest we forget, so has our Sovereign Father. Are our eyes on God or are they on the current issue we are facing? It is easy to stand back and tell you “All will be well’, “Trust the Lord”, “Pray more”, “Blah, Blah Blah”, etc. Nice words but not very helpful when we’re up to our neck in it.

What’s the solution? God’s grace, pure and simple.

So, what’s the solution? God’s grace, pure and simple. We need it and He has it in abundance. Remember the definition of grace is getting something we don’t deserve or haven’t earned. In his daily devotional book “New Morning Mercies” Paul David Tripp writes, “God’s grace not only provides you with what you need, but also transforms you into what He in wisdom created you to be.” When our focus shifts from our Savior and Redeemer to our current problems and concerns, we lose a step. We forget who we are; we forget whose we are. Mr. Tripp further expands his thought with “Your biggest need (and mine) is a fully restored relationship with God.” Like dangling keys in front of a baby to distract him or her, the enemy uses life to distract us and change our line of sight from heavenward, to earthward.

Life can be wonderful. It can also suck sometimes. And sometimes we may feel like we are in a rut we’ll never get out of. None of which changes who we are in God’s sight. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. And if He will continue to love us, we can be certain He will never abandon us. Hearing this should be encouraging. Ah, but believing it, knowing it in the very fiber of our being, is what keeps us moving forward regardless. Knowing who God calls us, what characteristic of our Heavenly Father we carry with us, is critical to staying strong while riding the roller coaster of life.

Knowing who God calls us, what characteristic of our Heavenly Father we carry with us, is critical to staying strong while riding the roller coaster of life.

This is not our home; this is the briefest moment of our existence. Keep your eyes up. Keep moving forward. God works all things for those who love Christ, even in the midst of what feels like weapons “prosperin’” against us.

If you are feeling overwhelmed and/or under-equipped, please reach out to us at Vision Forward. We would love to walk with you on your journey.

Your best tomorrow begins today.
